witsend raw foodWe all want to make sure that our dogs are healthy and will live to a ripe old age, and much like humans the food that we feed our dogs can go a long way to ensuring that they flourish. While many dogs do well on dried food, some dogs struggle, but could switching to a raw food diet be the answer?

WitsEnd’s Sara Whittaker has been testing the raw food diet on her dogs for just over two months now and has been impressed with the improvement in their health.

Sara’s dogs Pumpkin, Strumpet and Parsnip have all had their own health issues to contend with and switching to a whole food diet seems to have made a significant impact.

pumpkin - Staffordshire Bull TerrierPumpkin, her six year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, has struggled with stomach problems her whole life and had to have natural yogurt on dry food supplemented by an indigestion tablet recommended by Sara’s vet. If she didn’t have this she would eat anything she came across, such as bits of toys, grass or tissues, and then was violently sick.

However since eating Natures Menu the tablets and yogurt haven’t been necessary as her digestion has improved along with her skin, coat and breath, and she no longer does room clearing f**ts.

parsnip - spanielParsnip, Sara’s two and a half year old Spaniel has equally struggled with health problems, namely Addison’s disease which means his body doesn’t produce enough steroids and without daily medication he becomes very ill. Parsnip is prone to crisis which means he has to have his medication changed or he can end up being hospitalised.

One of the first signs that Parsnip may be in danger can be a loss of appetite, but as he dislikes dry food already it can be difficult to tell whether Parsnip is unwell or just simply doesn’t like the food that he has been offered. However, since Parsnip began a raw food diet this hasn’t been an issue as he happily eats the raw nuggets and finishes by licking around his bowl for more. His skin, breath and coat are all in great condition and his poos are “small and almost aroma free”.

strumpetStrumpet, Sara’s adorable and hopelessly spoilt Pug is nearly eight years old and for the past 2-3 years has struggled with itchy skin and hair loss which has led to many trips to the vet and plenty of medication. Since beginning a raw food diet her itching has been drastically reduced and her coat is looking much healthier.

Commenting on her dogs’ change of diet, Sara said: “I have always fed good quality dry food to my dogs and many of them have thrived on it. However, now I have three dogs that don’t. Luckily, I have found Natures Menu which is the best thing ever as I don’t have time to mess about sorting the dogs’ dinner.

It is simple, easy and many of the dog owners who were nervous about switching to a raw food diet are beginning to see the benefits”.

WitsEnd has recently had two new freezers installed and are pleased to announce they are now stocking a range of raw food from Europe’s largest raw food producer, Natures Menu.
